ELIZABETH — In a decision that could impact bloggers across New Jersey, a Superior Court judge ruled today that a self-declared citizen watchdog who writes stinging critiques of Union County government has the same legal protections as a professional journalist.

While questioning the quality and tone of the writing in Tina Renna’s blog posts, Judge Karen Cassidy concluded Renna “obtained material in the course of professional newsgathering activities” with the aim of disseminating it over the internet. (more…)

There are lots of neo-Fascists around.  Some are of the limp leftist variety, while others are the ramrod uptight of the right.  Both hate speech because they fear speech and lack the confidence or brains to parry it in the open market.

Hating free speech – especially free political speech – is un-American.  Politics in America has always been a brawl.  This is something very often forgotten by those who evoke images of wigged 18th century gentlemen but forget the violent exchanges that led to the birth of our country. (more…)

PolitickerNJ.com columnist Alan Steinberg is angry at Dick Morris for being too optimistic about the chances of the Romney-Ryan.

 

Steinberg went after Morris for trying to spin polls showing Romney trailing Obama nationally and in a number of battleground states.  That’s politics, though why Steinberg would want to give up so early is a mystery to us. (more…)
